Blessing of the Bikes 2012

There will be a brief (but hopefully powerful) blessing for riders and bikes, a moment of silence to remember cyclists who have been lost in the past year, and a chance for everyone to ring their bicycle bells in celebration of cycling. The service starts at 12:00 noon sharp; it is wonderful but very brief, so come a little early! There will be fair-trade coffee and soulful jazz on hand.
When: Sunday, May 20 at 12:00 noon  Where: Church of the Ascension, 253 Echo Drive

Last year's Blessing

Our aim was to celebrate the gifts of cycling---sustainability, economy, mental and physical well-being---with a brief, interdenominational service open to people of all faiths (or none). We were very happy with the results: the weather was fine, and sweet sounds of jazz from musicians David Broscoe and Dwayne Hodgson were on the breeze. After a reading, a simple antiphonal prayer, and a brief blessing for riders and bikes, there was a moment of silence to remember cyclists who have been lost in the past year. At the end, a chorus of bike bells rang out in jubilation.
