Outreach

  • “Blessing of the Bikes”: Our first annual Blessing of the Bikes was a wonderful event for the congregation.
  • Coffee Houses: A coffee house was held December 12 to raise funds for Roberto and Sharon.
  • Shrove Tuesday: Our all-organic Pancake Supper is a fundraiser for the CCSAC Emergency Food Bank.
  • Coffee and Conversation with New Canadians: This group meets at 88 Main Street each Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. to help new Canadians improve their English.
  • Peacemaking Task Force: A group of Ascension parishioners, together with others from the Diocese, has developed a Diocesan Peacemaking Centre. They recently participated in a seminar on human trafficking and are contributing articles to Crosstalk on a regular basis.
  • Family Fridays: Parents with young children have the opportunity to have some adult time, while the children share a supper and supervised play.
  • Mission to the Burundian Community

We have a few funds to help those in need, actively contributing to PWRDF and supporting community ministries in prayer, financial and practical assistance:

  • The Open Table
  • Ascension’s “Fund-a-Room” Cornerstone Fundraiser: The congregation has committed to “purchase” a room in Cornerstone’s new shelter for homeless women.
  • Centretown Churches for Social Action Committee: Each Sunday, we collect non-perishable food items for CSAC’s emergency food bank.
  • Centre 454: A day program providing emotional, spiritual, and practical support to all in need, including those who are homeless and socially isolated.
  • The Well/La Source: A day program for women and their children.
  • Ottawa Inner City Ministries: An inter-denominational Christian ministry called to serve among the less-fortunate people of downtown Ottawa. www.ottawainnercityministries.ca.
  • Christian Peacemaker Teams: CPT places violence-reduction teams in crisis situations and militarized areas around the world at the invitation of local peace and human-rights workers.
  • Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund: Canada’s Anglican response for emergency relief, refugees, development, and justice.
  • Canadian Paraplegic Association
  • Citizens for Public Justice
